Magnitude 5 quake hits off Davao City

MANILA, Philippines—A magnitude 5 earthquake struck off Davao City at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the tremor that hit 175 kilometers east-southeast of Davao City at a depth of 107.2 kilometers.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
