QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA — The Year of the Metal Rabbit is said to be a good time for love and business prospects, as well as challenges, according to Filipino-Chinese feng shui master and geomancer Aldric Dalumpines.
“Since the rabbit is known for its prolific ability to reproduce, 2011 will be a romantic year and it will also be good for our economy,” Dalumpines said.
The metal element, however, “paints a picture of war and conflict” in the political landscape, in office politics and at home, he added.
“This year will be more of the same like in the Year of the Metal Tiger, which underscored conflict. And so, we will have a lot of metal-based accidents such as vehicle collisions, price hikes in public transportation and goods, as well as carnappings in communities,” said Dalumpines, who serves as consultant to over 500 private clients in the country since 1988.
He likewise warned Filipinos of more rains and even floods. “In the five elements in Chinese feng shui, metal carries water so we can expect more rains, floods, water disasters, earthquakes,” he explained. “This has already been showed by the catastrophic flooding in Australia and I won’t be surprised if dessert countries will have rains, too.”
The advantage of more water would benefit the agrarian and food sector, as well as the supply of water in dams across the country.
In business, Dalumpines predicts there will be high inflation and high economic growth propelled by industries that use metal which will boom this year.
“Restaurants and food businesses, transport sector, mining, real estate, construction, and malls, are metal-based and even fire because this element can melt metal. For example, Quezon City will have a good year of business this year,” he said.
As for the general landscape of the country’s economy, Dalumpines said it will depend on President Benigno Aquino III, who is a metal rabbit born in 1960.
Since metal is abrasive, it affects those born under the metal rabbit, too, he said.
“The bombing in Makati forebodes lots of conflict and it will be more pronounced (this year),” Dalumpines said.
A preview of this conflict issues were seen during the last quarter of 2010 when the sign of the rabbit overlap with the tiger, noting the two failed relationships and even his relationship with the Supreme Court that junked his first executive order.
Even the second-hand Porsche car was an issue faced by the president, he noted. “His problems will turn into metal problems, even the issues in policies,” he stated.
Dalumpines cited as an example his personal view that the bus bombing, which was seemingly a terrorist attack, could have been the response of owners of disenfranchised bus liners.
There are two ways to look into this, said Dalumpines: the removal of old bus liners will usher more people to patronize the Metro Rail Transit along Edsa, or to make way for electric buses from China.
Either way, according to Dalumpines, the year signifies “a pronounced tendency to abuse regulations to favor vested interests,” given that former, current and incoming politicians own significant shares in big businesses.
While everyone will be in for a romantic year, Dalumpines warned that there will be a lot of “hopping” in and out of relationships and beds, both for males and females.
This is because the luckiest direction for 2011 is northwest which falls under the sign of the father of the family, or the man in a relationship even regardless of gender. This means they will get support for every endeavor they have, he noted.
For this year, the luckiest signs include the Sheep, Horse, Pig, and Ox. The year will also bring average luck to those born under the Tiger, Dragon, and Monkey signs. People under the Dog and Snake signs will experience progress, but they will be prone to health problems.
Unlucky signs for the year include the Rabbit, Rooster, and Rat.
Here are general ways to attract luck using feng shui:
Lucky colors include champagne gold, white being the home color of metal, and sugar-apple green, which represents wood that acts as a shield and balances the intensity of metal, as in chopping a wood with an ax. Wearing shirts or dresses in this color would attract good luck and love.
To attract good luck for the year, Dalumpines said all signs, especially those that are unlucky this year, to put a pair of pi yao in the office or at home. A piece of pi yao represented by a dragon statue could be placed facing the east and its back on the west; for a pair, put one facing the east and another one facing the west.
Others could also use clothing or bags with the symbol of the dragon or wear a silver aruana ring for universal luck. This could be seen in some malls in Manila already decorated their entrances with dragons.
As a word of caution, Dalumpines warned the public against practicing do-it-yourself feng shui to prevent accidents “because what might be good for them can harm their family or friends if they only consider their sign.”
