MANILA, Philippines—Former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo arrived at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center Tuesday, where her former ally Angelo Reyes died hours earlier.
Arroyo arrived aboard a white Mercedes Benz and passed through the lobby of the hospital where Reyes was brought after he reportedly shot himself early Tuesday.
Former Arroyo Cabinet secretary Michael “Mike” Defensor was also seen entering the hospital.
Arroyo was vice president when Reyes was Armed Forces chief during the time of former president Joseph Estrada.
Reyes was largely credited for Arroyo's ascension to power after he led the military in a bloodless revolt that eventually ousted Estrada, the second president to be toppled by "people power." The first was dictator Ferdinand Marcos who was ousted by forces who supported then housewife Corazon Aquino in the first "people power."
