Filipino boxing champ's courtesy call on Obama may happen Tuesday

Source: ANN

The courtesy call of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee on United States President Barack
Obama could take place at the White House on Tuesday (February 15).

The respect for protocol has prevented Top Rank promoter Bob Arum from confirming the exact date of the courtesy call which was being arranged by former US Senate Democratic leader Sen. Harry Reid as a way of thanking Pacquiao.

Pacquiao campaigned for Reid in a big rally in Las Vegas last year and was credited for having swung the Filipino-American votes in favor of the Democratic senator in a close electoral contest.

The word is that Pacquiao would call on Reid at the US Senate before going to the White House.

"We are not allowed to say anything but everything is proceeding well," Arum told the Inquirer. "That's all I can say."

Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz was also tight-lipped regarding the courtesy call which Pacquiao, unaware of the protocol, himself had announced before leaving for the US to promote his May fight with Shane Mosley.

The Team Pacquiao entourage will travel by train to Washington from New York following another major press conference at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Monday.

Meantime, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is ecstatic over the results of his decision to switch the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight from HBO Sports to Showtime and the huge CBS network.

"Now on terrestrial television, entities that might not have covered this because it was going to be carried only by a relatively small network like HBO will now cover the promotion," said Arum.
