A 24-year-old woman was fined S$5,000 on Wednesday for forging medical certificates (MCs).
Filzah Nadhirah Mohd Saleh, a former finance assistant from non-profit group Persatuan Pemudi Islam Singapura or Singapore Muslim Women’s Association (PPIS), was charged with six counts of forgery between April and May last year.
She admitted to two counts of forgery on April 14 and 16 by appending the date, serial number and signature of Dr Ang Seng Bin from Lifecare Family Centre.
The other four counts were for a similar offence, but were taken into consideration.
When Ms Filzah started taking medical leave on a more frequent basis, her 36-year-old manager Rohana Abdul Latip got concerned and decided to check with the clinic regarding the former’s health.
However, she discovered that Ms Filzah’s last visit to the clinic was in October 2009.
She also faxed over the two MCs for verification, and found out that Dr Ang was no longer with the clinic, having left in 2008.
The manager then lodged a police report regarding the forged documents on May 13 last year.
Filzah could have been jailed up to four years and fined for each forgery charge.
