SINGAPORE: MPs have lined up several concerns regarding Singapore's fertility rate and CPF, among others, that will be answered in Parliament on Friday before the Budget Statement.
MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Hri Kumar has asked Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong what new strategies the Government will pursue to increase Singapore's fertility rate.
The Total Fertility Rate hit a historical low of 1.16 in 2010.
For the Chinese community, it was 1.02 in 2010, down from 1.14 in 2008.
For the Malay community, it was 1.65 in 2010, a dive from 1.91 in 2008.
The Indian community too has been facing declining fertility rates: 1.13 in 2010, down from 1.19 in 2008.
Mr Hri Kumar also tabled a question for the Environment and Water Resources Minister, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim on the disparity in market rents between hawker stalls in different locations.
Two questions regarding CPF have also been posed.
One is the number of people above 55 years of age who do not have the Minimum Sum, and progress of the CPF Minimum Sum Topping Up Scheme.
The other pertaining to whether the CPF Act provides for extenuating circumstances, other than for housing and investment, whereby a member is allowed to draw his CPF savings before his offical retirement age.
Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam is expected to deliver the Budget Statement in Parliament at 3.30pm tomorrow.
