MANILA, Philippines—Three Filipino drug mules were executed in China this Wednesday, according to Vice President Jejomar Binay in a live television interview.
Ramon Credo, 42, Elizabeth Batain, 38, and Sally Villanueva, 32, all died by lethal injection, said Binay.
The three were executed despite appeals from their families and efforts by the Philippine government to have their death sentence commuted to life.
The three, convicted of heroin smuggling in 2009, were due to have been put to death last February 20 and 21 but were granted a rare reprieve following Vice President Jejomar Binay’s trip to Beijing on February 18.
