S’poreans to get U-save, S&CC rebates by April

The S$194 million in rebates for Utilities-Save (U-Save) and Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC) as part of the 'Grow and Share' package of the Singapore government's Budget for 2011 will take effect starting April.

About 800,000 Singaporean households will receive between $236 and $360 worth of U-Save rebates and between one and three months waivers of S&CC, both depending on the type of HDB flat the family lives in, Channel News Asia reported.

A household in a four-room HDB flat will receive $320 for the U-Save rebate and two months waiver of S&CC.

Eligible households will be notified by April 2011 and they need not do anything to receive the rebates.

The rebate is introduced to help households, especially lower income households, to cope with rising costs and higher utilities bills.

Meanwhile, Singapore Power (SP) Services announced that starting April the electricity tariff will increase by 6.1 percent to 25.58 cents per kilowatt-hour.

On average, families in four-room HDB flats will have to pay about $4.85 more every month for their electricity based on the new tariff.

SP Services explained the increase is due to the rise of fuel oil price that now cost $113.37 per barrel compared to $99.45 from the last three months.
