MANILA, Philippines—Six members of the so-called "Morong 43" on Monday morning filed at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court a P15-million damage suit against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and 10 others for alleged human rights violations they suffered during their detention last year.
The plaintiffs—Dr. Merry Mia Clamor, Dr. Alexis Montes, Gary Liberal, Ma. Teresa Quinawayan, Reynaldo Macabenta and Mercy Castro—lodged the case against Arroyo and several military and police officials.
The plaintiffs were assisted by the National Union of Peoples' Lawyers through Atty. Edre Olalia.
"We want to show that GMA can't just get away with it," Olalia said in an interview.
