Kimmel suggests 'Winner takes all' against Mayweather, Pacquiao agrees
HOLLYWOOD, California - Moments ago, Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao guested at the ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live midnight show for the fifth time, which was actually taped more than three hours ago.
Kimmel asked Pacquiao if he thinks Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is scared to fight him. Pacquiao said: "I do not know what's the reason."
Kimmel, who thought of a solution about the financial consideration crucial to the fight, premised: "You think you're gonna win the fight. You think he's gonna win".
Kimmel suggested if Pacquiao agrees the idea of 'Winner takes all', that if his fight against Mayweather materializes. Pacquiao said; "Of course!"
Pacquiao has made his appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live a "routine", being a guest before each of his last three fights. He first guested on November 3, 2009 just before his fight with Miguel Cotto and also while he was promoting his fights against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito and another one showcase after.
Just before Pacquiao's segment of the same program, multi-award winning actor Eddie Murphy guested at Jimmy Kimmel Live. Like Kimmel, Murphy has become a boxing fan and likes Mayweather and Pacquiao face off.
"I can't wait to see; they have to do it," says Murphy, referring to Mayweather-Pacquiao fight which was aborted last March early this year due to disagreement between the two camps on three issues, one about Olympic style of random testing that Mayweather wanted it done until fight date, which Pacquiao disagrees. Pacquiao only wants it done 14 days before the fight and one after the fight. And a value-added issue spings up: Mayweather wants the same testing done under the supervision of United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) versus World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that Pacquiao's camp believes to be unbiased. Team Pacquiao believes USADA is not the appropriate agency to supervise over a foreign fighter like Pacquiao, albeit this issue goes beyond the realm of any state's athletic commission. Another, Mayweather demands $ 100,000 purse for a fight with Pacquiao. Team Pacquiao sees it as exhorbitant.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao felt his guesting at Jimmy Kimmel Live a lucky charm.
"It's some kind of lucky," said Pacquiao. "I always win when I come here before my fight."
Wearing his signature smiles, Pacquiao showed up in white polo shirt inside topped by red track lightweight waist-length jacket, bearing "Pacquiao" on both forearms and ribboned with black bands on both ends and the collar. His eyes were deep, iliciting less thoughts at times to the frenzy of the moment, especially when he sang in the end ,"How deep is your love", with Kimmel.
And to whom? Only Pacquiao knows.
But, Pacquiao, who nonetheless seemed to be so preoccupied of his training and meditations for his upcoming fight against lightweight champion and longtime nemesis, Juan Manuel Marquez, was showed a photograph of Marquez wearing a yellow T-shirt with "Marquez beat Pacquiao twice" printed on it. The same photograph appears on the wall inside of Wild Card Gym where Pacquiao trains with Freddie Roach as trainer. The same T-shirt in that photograph was made by Marquez's mother.
"This is something that motivated you, right?"
Asked if he is angry about it, he replied: "I am not angry . But, I always ask myself: What do I need to prove that I won the fight?" Pacquiao was referring to their second encounter in 2008 which he won via split decision. Their first encounter in 2004 was a draw.
"I am excited for the fight. I am excited to give a good show. You know, I work hard at (sic) the gym. And at (sic) that night, we'll (sic) perform."
Pacquiao was further asked if he sees Marquez as good. He said: " He's good. But, you know...Hmm..."
Promoted by Top Rank, Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Marquez Promotions, and Tecate, Pacquiao will defend against Marquez his World Boxing Organization Welterweight Championship belt on November 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
