Singapore Q3 jobless rate s/adj 2.0 pct, vs 2.1 pct in Q2
SINGAPORE, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Singapore's Ministry of Manpower released preliminary unemployment data for the third quarter of 2011 on Monday:

- Among the resident labour force, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Q3 was 2.9 pct, down from 3.0 pct in Q2.
- Preliminary estimates showed total employment in Singapore rose by 32,300 in the July-September period, more than the 24,800 jobs in the second quarter. The total workforce stood at 3.19 million.
- Services provided 21,900 new jobs, while manufacturing added 3,500 jobs.
CONTEXT:
- Singapore's government has been making it harder for employers to hire foreigners for lower-skilled work in response to unhappiness among citizens about overcrowding, prompting complaints by factories, hotels and other businesses. (Reporting by Kevin Lim)
