Corona clobbers The Golden Globes as trending topic

 
If a Chief Justice, George Clooney, a New York Giant and Green Bay Packer walked into a bar, who would get the most tweets from a Pinoy?

On Monday, Jan. 16, when three major events vied for the attention of the Filipino netizen, the clear winner was Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

The hashtag #CJonTrial placed second on Twitter’s Philippine trending topics, beating out the Golden Globes and the National Football League tournament that took place on the same day.

According to HashTracking.com, 1,500 tweets generated 25,116,406 impressions, reaching an audience of 3,243,657 followers within the past 24 hours. By searching “Justice” and “Corona” on Facebook, at least 15 groups, pages and profiles show up.

Yahoo! liveblogs the trial

On Yahoo! Philippines, 4 of the top 5 stories of the day were about the trial with the Yahoo! exclusive, “Corona maintains innocence prior to trial,” getting thousands of clicks.

Yahoo!’s ongoing live blog also attracted thousands of readers, the bulk of whom were from outside the Philippines.

Also on Twitter, celebrities, news sites, opinion-makers or simply, the opinionated, yielded hilarious and enlightening tweets.

The joke account @superstarmarian tweeted, “sushal pag presidente at cheap justice ang magkaaway noh? impeachment agad! dba pwede kulong sa banyo muna? #ImpeachMeynteyn #CJonTrial”

TV host Bianca Gonzalez in her @iamsuperbianca account said, “i just wish that all these impeachment trials serve as a lesson to other leaders so that no impeachment case has to be filed to begin with!”

‘Rule of law, not rule of yellow’

Then, there was @FakeNoyNoy who tweeted: “WANTED: New Chief Justice/ No experience required/ Must be excellent in following orders from the President.”
