The iPhone 4S: 4 Common Problems and Solutions

 Maryanne Lee
Though the iPhone 4S’s arrival in the world of tech was heavily hyped and much anticipated, there’s no denying that its cons far outweighed its pros. We give you the low-down on the common problems (and solutions to them) of the iPhone 4S.

Rapid Battery Drain

This can be a problem when you’re a heavy media or app user, or if you’re constantly on the phone. Extend your battery life by turning off unnecessary applications, such as Siri, push mail, location services and your screen brightness, among many other things. You can find more tips on extending your battery life over here.

Kill it with fire!

Ouch! No one wants burnt ears when they’re talking to their sweetie! While this may be the fault of your battery (and you can get that replaced) you might want to try turning your apps off one by one to see if any of them are the culprit. In most cases, says forum user Lawrence Finch, it’s just one app that causes this overheating and subsequent battery drain. Of course, remember to run your battery down all the way, first.

You could also try turning your 3G off when you’re not using it.

Oops...

Unfortunately, iOS5 seems to be responsible for this widespread problem. You can either hotfoot it down to your nearest phone service provider to do an exchange, or you could try a fix a forum user suggested: give your iPhone’s MAC address a fixed IP direct from your router, instead of letting it assign itself a static one. You can do this by opening your network connections, and checking the settings there for a MAC address.

Alternatively, you can sign into your router’s config panel.
