Every year, many us make the resolution to lose weight. But, why wait until New Year's? The truth is, you can actually get a head start on your diet. Getting a head start will actually make it much easier to lose weight in the new year. Best of all, all of these tips are easy to implement and get you on the fast track to weight loss.
Start Early
It would be wrong to suggest you diet during the holidays. That doesn't mean you can't get an early start on your New Year's diet. The advantage to starting your diet early is that you aren't forced to do it all in one day. Many people wake up New Year's and expect everything to change and their new, healthy lifestyle to fall into place. It doesn't work that way. By starting early, you give yourself time to slowly implement the changes you want to make.
Begin Your Food Journal
While your food journal may be a bit scary during the month of December, it's important to get an idea of what you're eating. This doesn't mean you have to change your eating habits. The first couple weeks of a food journal's entries are simply to make you aware of eating habits and motives. In your food journal, write down what you eat and drink, the time of day and how you were feeling before and after eating. This information will come in handy when you really hunker down and get your New Year's diet going.
Drink More Water
Okay, so you don't have to give up your favorite holiday foods to get a head start on your diet. What you can do though is drink more water. This is a simple and effortless way to get your body geared towards weight loss. Try drinking 8 ounces of water with your morning vitamins. Take a reusable water bottle to work and always keep it filled and drink water with your meals. The sooner you get your body used to drinking water the better. The taste may seem a bit bland at first, but your body will eventually begin to crave water. To enhance the flavor, try adding slices of lemon or lime.
Fit Exercise In Whenever Possible
Another great way to get a head start on your New Year's diet is to start exercising. This doesn't mean you have to jump on the treadmill. After all, it's December and who has time for that? What you do have time for is parking further away from store entrances, taking the stairs whenever possible and walking to nearby destinations. Don't forget that a lot of holiday activities you have to do also burn calories. For example, while you're cleaning the house to a spotless shine for your mother-in-law, you'll also be burning calories.
Get Your Plan in Place
As mentioned above, trying to completely change your life in one day is not feasible. Whenever you have a few moments, do research and start making notes on the changes you want to make. If the changes are easy, try to start them ahead of the new year. For more difficult changes, consider what you can do to make the changes easier and how you can get a head start. For example, if you want to make healthier meals, start printing out recipes that you'd like to make. Every little bit helps.
