MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III will address the nation soon to present a year-end report on the accomplishments of his six-month-old administration as well as his plans for the new year.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Thursday that he Palace was still discussing when will Mr. Aquino present his "Ulat sa Bayan'' report.
"(The President) will mention what we have done and what we will be doing in the new year,'' Lacierda said.
So far, the Palace was looking at holding the President's year-end report to the nation either "before the end of the year or early next year,'' according to Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang.
Lacierda said President Aquino's report to the nation will use as basis the accomplishment reports of Cabinet secretaries.
"We were asked to submit our accomplishment report to the Presidential Management Staff,'' Lacierda told reporters as he also disclosed that unlike other administrations, the President did not require his officials to submit courtesy resignations.
Lacierda said the accomplishment report will also serve as a "benchmark of what we are doing.''
"It's important for us to have a benchmark on what we're doing now and what we will be doing in the future,'' Lacierda said. "We need to mesh the 16-point contract during the President's campaign with Medium Term Philippine Development Plan.''
Asked on the lessons learned by the administration, Lacierda said that for him, his "number one lesson'' was to make sure Palace reporters would "be informed ahead of time before the others."
He was referring to an incident in the early days of the Aquino administration when he first announced to a news television program the details of a memorandum order on the fate of contractual government employees while he kept Palace reporters waiting for his press briefing on the same subject to begin.
"So I hope I've been behaving properly. For me, it's very rewarding because you help the people directly and this administration where we emphasize on eradication of graft and corruption,'' Lacierda also said.
