The uncle and trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. still has high hopes that the superfight between his nephew and Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao will still push through.
"I think it's going to happen. My nephew is still in boxing and I can't see why it won't happen," Floyd’s uncle, Roger Mayweather, told Examiner.com.
Mayweather said that if the fight pushes through, it will eclipse the record set by the Floyd-Oscar de la Hoya bout.
"The highest grossing fight in this time in boxing was Floyd and De la Hoya. And you know a Floyd and Pacquiao fight is going to gross more than that," he said.
"Mayweather-Pacquiao is going to be the biggest fight in the history of boxing."
The boxing world awaits the 2 pound-for-pound kings to clash because both fighters defeated almost the same set of opponents.
"Remember, Pacquiao beat Shane Mosley, he beat De la Hoya, he beat Ricky Hatton. He beat all these dudes. (Expletive) ain't never took a test to fight one of them, but he beat them all," said Mayweather.
Floyd repeatedly declined to fight Pacquiao because he claimed the Filipino boxer refuses to undergo Olympic-style drug testing.
Floyd is due for a September 17 fight date against Victor Ortiz.
Pacquiao, on the other hand, will face Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12.
When asked to comment on the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, Mayweather said he sees a tough bout between the 2 ring warriors.
"I think it's still going to be a hard fight because they know one another."
