By Orlando Parfitt How’s this for a steep thrill? A Japanese theme park has unveiled a new roller coaster boasting the steepest vertical drop of any ride on earth.  The headline-making ride involves a terrifying freefall down a 121 degree incline - which the park hopes will be confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the steepest on earth. [See also: World's tallest roller coasters] They plan to nab the accolade from a British attraction, Mumbo Jumbo, at Flamingo Land in Yorkshire. Mumbo Jumbo’s incline is a mere 112 degrees.The Takabisha will also winch thrill seekers up a 43-metre-high peak, before sending them plunging back down at 100 kilometres an hour, triggering temporary weightlessness. It also features seven ‘major’ twists over its 1000-meter length - but only lasts 112 stomach-churning seconds. The entrance fee is around £7.50. If Guinness give the £23million ride the thumbs up, it will be the 14th world record set by the theme park. However, at present the title of ‘tallest coaster’ is held by the Kingda Ka in the Six Flags Great Adventure park in New Jersey. It’s 139 metres high. |
