Malaysian police subdue man who took 30 hostages

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian police have stormed a kindergarten and subdued a man who took some 30 children and teachers captive, ending a nearly seven-hour hostage drama.

District police officer Suhaimi Ahmad said all the hostages were safe. He said the man barged into the kindergarten in a residential area of southern Johor state Thursday morning, sparking a standoff with police.
The Star newspaper said in its online edition that police shot tear gas before entering the school. It said the man was believed to have been injured.
It said the man earlier told negotiators to give him a gun or he would kill the children.
