MANILA, Philippines - Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao does not welcome the idea of his wife Jinkee Pacquiao entering the glitzy yet frenzied world of showbiz.
"Hindi, ayoko siyang pumasok… Bakit pa siya papasok ng showbiz? What for?" Manny told “Startalk,” Dec. 11.
Jinkee, who was beside him during the interview, simply smiled while listening to her husband’s statements.
Prior to talks that the boxer-congressman’s wife has plans of becoming a full-blown showbiz personality, Jinkee already appeared in TV commercials with Manny, as well as in billboards and print ads en solo.
In a separate interview, Jinkee admitted that she’d prefer hosting to acting given her “shy” nature.
“[Pero] magpapaalam pa ako sa boss ko," she added, referring to Manny.
However, Manny said in their joint interview, “Kasi mamaya [kapag nag-showbiz siya] baka mapabayan ‘yung business namin, mahirap.”
Apart from Manny’s lucrative income from boxing and congress, the Pacquiaos earn from their own businesses, namely a gas station, a coffee shop, a water refilling station, and a fashion boutique---all located in the pound-per-pound king’s home province, General Santos City. They also have a novelty store called “Team Pacquiao” which sells Manny memorabilia.
Jinkee also has her own shops---another fashion boutique and a franchised beauty clinic---at the KCC Mall also in GenSan.
Mrs. Pacquiao currently has her hands full with preparations for Manny’s 32nd birthday party on Dec. 17. The grand celebration will be held at the KCC Convention.
Knowing that her husband is fond of the classic gangster film “The Godfather,” Jinkee related that the concept of Manny’s party will be “mythical pound-per-pound.”
“‘Yung isusuot ng mga bisita ‘Godfather’ look kasi ‘yun ang paborito ni Manny, ‘yung ‘Godfather’ na movie,” she said.
The power couple named some of the bigwigs they have invited to Manny’s party, including Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Manny’s coach Freddie Roach, his ring opponent-turned-friend Miguel Cotto, and fellow congressmen.
Although Jinkee declined to disclose her birthday present for her hubby, she said, “inaayos ko pa, babayaran ko pa lang.”
