THE HOLIDAYS can be hard on our skin without us even knowing it. Normally, we only watch our weight without taking note of our skin. Our skin is a living organ which constantly regenerates and with all the affairs we have to go to, the makeup we wear for hours, not to mention all that fatty food, our skin is bound to take a beating.
Here are easy ways to take care of our skin without breaking the bank.
Drink lots of water. Not only is it important to keep moisturized outside, we’ve got to hydrate inside, too. Drinking water helps our skin; it keeps skin looking fresh and prevents it from becoming dry.
Use sunscreen. Get a lotion with a minimum SPF of 15 to 30, and make sure to use it everyday, even when you are going to spend the day indoors. Also, it’s best to use a moisturizer with SPF to save you some time. Remember, using sunscreen will keep you looking young, and it will help keep wrinkles away!
Learn how to make a homemade mask, or buy one off the shelf. I have a friend who swears by a mashed-carrots-and-honey mask. A mask is like a deep hair-conditioner for the face, and you can use it once a week or when you feel you need it, but the results come fast, and your skin will never feel as supple.
Wash your face. Keeping your face clean and makeup-free will prevent blackheads, whiteheads and acne. Makeup clogs the pores, so make sure to never sleep without removing it. Also, it is not advisable to share sponges and brushes in general. Remember, this is how bacteria gets passed on.
Use the right amount of foundation. This means just covering the spot where you need it, and not your whole face. There are only certain areas you feel self-conscious about, so cover them up, but otherwise stay foundation-free.
Be gentle on your skin. Avoid touching your skin, and most especially tugging at the skin under your eye. As time passes, the skin loses its elasticity, and all that tugging and pulling will wear it out and cause wrinkles.
Get lots of vitamins and exercise. These two are essential for healthy skin, and help improve the complexion. Exercise, such as walking, reduces cellulite and improves muscle tone.
