Talk ‘N Text mangled the San Miguel Beer squad, 95-82, to capture their third PBA crown at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao before a record crowd of over 15,000.
It was Jimmy Alapag who ignited the charge, hitting a 3 pointer in the third period. From there, there was no looking back for the Texters which saw them lead by as much as 15 points.
Kelly Williams, Ali Peek, Ryan Reyes, Harvey Carey and Larry Fonacier contributed largely to the charge, handing TnT coach Chot Reyes his second title with the team and sixth overall since coaching in the PBA.
TNT’s first title was during the 2003 all-Filipino tournament under Joel Banal, while Reyes steered the team to the AFC in 2009.
The Beermen struggled after giving up the lead in the third period, thanks mainly to a pesky TnT defense.
Dondon Hontiveros and Arwind Santos failed to produce their usual numbers with only Jay Washington churning in 29 points in a losing cause.
TnT guards Jimmy Alapag and Jason Castro were names as the Finals co-MVPs by the PBA Press Corps.
The PBA takes a short break and will resume on February 18. Teams will be allowed to field in one import with a height of 6'4".
