Police say a Philippines senator who fled double murder charges more than a year ago has returned after a court voided the arrest warrant against him.
National Police spokesman Agrimero Cruz said Senator Panfilo Lacson flew to central Cebu city from Hong Kong around noon Saturday.
Lacson has insisted he had nothing to do with the killings of high-profile publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver in 2000.
He claims the murder charges were part of a conspiracy against him by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Lacson was an an arch-critic of Arroyo.
The Court of Appeals ruled there was no probable cause for the arrest warrant. The trial court's options could include ordering a reinvestigation or dismissing the case.
