After more than a year layoff from boxing, undefeated boxing superstar Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, Jr. (41-0, 25 KOs) stood in front of throngs of fans and media today at the Hudson Theatre, in New York City for the inaugural press conference of his September 17 clash with 'Vicious' Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs).
Mayweather had a lot to say in his first formal press conference since his last fight was against Shane Mosley in May of 2010. Contrary to his previous press conferences, however, this time around, Mayweather spoke liberally about 8-division World Champion Manny Pacquiao, the man everyone wants him to fight.
Mayweather declared that he is not one to "duck or dodge anyone." And addressed the question regarding fighting Pacquiao when he said, "Do I want the Pacquiao fight? Absolutely." Among other things he said about Pacquiao, Mayweather insisted that he "never once said Manny Pacquiao was cheating," and thanked Ortiz for stepping up and "taking the test". He also promised that his "main focus is Victor Ortiz," and that he plans to dedicate himself to training for the WBC welterweight champion.

The seemingly more subdued and contemplative Mayweather also reminded the media that his kids, who he brought on stage with him at the press conference, are big enough now to go on the internet and read stories about him, and appealed for 'respect'.
Ortiz, who is coming from a sensational performance last April in handing Andre Berto his first loss, also had a lot of interesting things to say. "If Armstrong went to the moon why can't I hold onto my title for 15 years?" an animated Ortiz said. Ortiz also expressed how tired he is of hearing from other people what he can't do, pointing out his childhood coming from a foster home and being abandoned by his parents as a child. "Now I'm champion of the world. I'm newly crowned and I'm not giving it up," Ortiz emphasized.
